Looking at the Russian FKD for the first time, you'll probably not notice anything special. It's a typical camera from the turn of the centuries, one hundred years ago. It's construction was ubiquitous at that time:

• A wooden L-shaped base and front as well as a moveable back connected by a bellows made of paper and textile
• The front allows for some minor shift movements and the back for some limited swivel — yes, nothing comparable to today's modern large format …
• The back also holds the ground glass as well as the holder for the light sensitive glass plates — yes, this camera clearly is from a period before the invention of flexible film …
• Although the lens already has an iris to adjust the f-stop setting, there is no kind of shutter — yes, there's simply no need to have one as the photographic emulsions of that time were so slow that using a hat to cover the lens and counting the seconds was all that was required …

Our sample was received from the Ukraine in absolute mint condition. It was very well looked after, and the owner(s) obviously looked after it very well. We have seen some others advertised which are in a very poor state.
