Porst 50mm F1.8:
Well, well, well! What a surprise this lens held for us. Despite
it's cheapish plastic design, and loose rubber on the focus ring, this
must be the sharpest 50mm M42 we have ever tested. Better than the
legendary Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50 F1.8 and the great Pentax Takumars!
We were really very impressed with the optical qualities of this lens.
Porst lenses were
manufactured in East Germany, but during later years, some models were
manufactured in Japan. Our copy is a Japanese lens. We found this to be a
fast excellent quality lens, which
can stand it's ground against any of the icons. This lens is sharp wide open, and we have yet to encounter
Chroma in any picture.
They are quite rare, and this is the only 50mm one we
came across during the past 6 years.
